Dogwood Boarding believes in giving back.
Scout's Honor Pet Food Pantry
In mid 2017, Dogwood Boarding launched Scout's Honor Pet Food Pantry to help local food pantries and meal delivery services provide senior citizens in southern West Virginia with nutritional food resources for their pets.
Why a Pet food pantry?
Working to alleviate the immediate needs of hungry pets has long-lasting and impactful effects on our most vulnerable communities. Scout's Honor helps senior citizens in Cabell, Putnam, and Lincoln counties provide their companion animals with nutritional pet foods, thus improving the quality of life, health, and financial situation of both pets and owners. Pet ownership has proven positive effects on the physical and mental health, as well as associated costs. By making it easier for our most vulnerable population to care for their furry friends with quality nutrition, we improve the lives of both parties through the reduction of diet-related or isolation-related disease. Not Just a Food Pantry
Scout's Honor Pet Food Pantry seeks to help pets and their owners in Southern West Virginia in a great number of ways. In addition to working towards hunger relief efforts, we also seek to educate pet owners on the benefits of good pet nutrition and the benefits of responsible pet ownership to our communities. We also have two emergency response programs: The Domestic Violence Foster Network and The Emergency Housing Fund.
Domestic Violence Foster Network
Scout's Honor is cultivating a network of temporary foster homes, discounted boarding agreements, and legal resources to help ensure the safety and care of the pets of people who are escaping situations of domestic violence. If you would like to learn more about what we offer at this time, or would like to volunteer your home, knowledge, spare change, or services to this endeavor, please reach out to us here:
The Emergency Housing Fund
Scout's Honor provides victims of catastrophic loss (flood, fire, wind damage, etc) that no longer have a safe space to house their pets. We will provide a crate/carrier, leash/collar, kibble, and a warm blanket to any and all pets who are being relocated to temporary housing due to disaster. In some cases we will be able to provide a small boarding stipend to those in need. If you would like to network with us to provide boarding, funds, or resources-- or if you are in need of this service, please fill out the form below:
